About Us
History
Since 1950 helping Old City residents.
The Society was established in 1950 under the umbrella of the Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarchate, right in the wake of the 1948 war to cater to the health needs of Palestinians displaced from their homes who moved to live in or close to the Old City of Jerusalem. Since its establishment, the center has provided maternal and child health care and general health services for all needy people. During 53 years, the center managed to render these services to tens of thousands of women and children, and established very important preventive and curative health services. In 2003, following an Israeli government order making it mandatory for all citizens and residents to obtain national healthcare insurance, it was decided the Society should cater to other community needs. After an assessment, the Society changed its mission in order to help the vulnerable groups in the society: Women, Youth and Elderly.
